A unique tree that grew in the national arboretum of New Zealand at Eastwoodhill. The trunk was completely covered in warty growth creating a mesmerising grain pattern that is an adventure for the eyes. Definitely a one of kind tree, that succumbed to decay and a storm.
Made from holm oak (Quercus ilex). The bowties stabilising the cracks are made from Japanese willow leaved oak (Quercus salicinia), also from the arboretum and still grows some 50 m from where the holm oak lived.
Finished with shellac sanding sealer, New Zealand growth linseed oil and organic beeswax.
This piece featured in the 2023 Art of Wood Exhibition.
