Eastern red cedar hollow form.

Hollow form with a natural edged rim. Turned from cross-grained eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana). The natural edge is retained as a feature showing off the contrast between the deep red heart wood and creamy white sapwood. This was turned while part dried and natural cracks radiate out from the grain core on two sides. These are stable and natural features as a result of the form and cross-grained orientation. This tree grew at the national arboretum of New Zealand at Eastwoodhill. It died of old age and was removed in 2023.
